Lidy Blijdorp is a young, passionate cellist with enormous narrative power, praised for her ‚breathtaking musicality‚ (Amsterdamse Cellobiennale).
She graduated cum laude from Amsterdam and Paris conservatory, and received her Artist Diploma at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music.
Blijdorp studied with Monique Bartels (Amsterdam Conservatory), Michel Strauss (Conservatoire National Supérieure de Paris) and Gary Hoffman (Queen Elisabeth Chapel). She also received lessons from Anner Bylsma.
She won prizes at competitions such as Cellobiennale Amsterdam, the International Charles Hennen Competition and the Grachtenfestival Competition. In France she won the Prix Academie Maurice Ravel (2014).
Blijdorp plays regularly in the Netherlands, as well as abroad. She gave recitals in New York, France, Switserland and Japan. In Madrid she gave a Beethoven-recital with Maria João Pires (Auditorio Nacional).
As a soloist she has played with various orchestras. In 2013 she was invited to play Dvorák cello concerto and the premiere of the Russian composer Sergej Yevtushenko, with the State Hermitage Orchestra (Hermitage Theater, St. Petersburg). She also played with the Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie (Bozar, Brussels, 2014), the Liège Philharmonic Orchestra (Flagey, Brussels; Salle Philharmonique, Liège, 2014), Camerata Amsterdam (tour 2016), Netherlands Wind Ensemble (2016, Vredenburg), NESKO (tour 2017), the Orchestra of the 18th Century (2018) and the Orkest van het Oosten (2019).
Blijdorp has the honour to play on the Italian cello of Anner Bylsma, lent to her by the Dutch National Musical Instrument Fund.
