William Howard Shelton was born in Nancy (France). His parents who were both members of the Nancy Opera chorus encouraged him to develop his musical potential and he won a scholarship to Salisbury Cathedral School (England) at the age of eight. He continued his musical studies at Dole, Besançon and Dijon conservatories, where he studied singing, horn, organ, music theory, chamber music and orchestra. He moved to Paris in 2015 after obtaining a Bachelors degree in Physics and Chemistry at Besançon university, a Horn diploma, an Organ diploma and a singing diploma with the highest distinctions. He has had the opportunity to develop his singing by participating in masterclasses with Hans Jörg Mammel, Jan Kobow, Michel Laplénie, Isabelle Druet, Robert Expert, Regina Werner, Mickaël Mardayer and Philippe Jaroussky.

In Paris, William’s voice was quickly noticed by conducters such as Simon-Pierre Bestion (Compagnie la Tempête), Raphaël Pichon (Pygmalion), William Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Geoffroy Jourdain (Les Cris de Paris), Christophe Coin, Jean Tubéry (La Fenice), Daniel Cuiller (Stradivaria), Gregor A. Mayrhofer (Ensemble intercontemporain), Vincent Dumestre (Le Poème harmonique), and the stage director Benjamin Lazar, enabling him to begin a busy singing career.

He has performed, often as a soloist, in many concert venues such as the Paris Opera Amphitheatre, the Paris Philharmonie, Köln Philharmonie, the Chapelle Royale de Versailles, Rouen Opera, Reims Opera, the Royal Albert Hall during festivals like the Lessay Festival, the Chaise-Dieu festival, the Beaune international baroque festival, the BBC Proms, the Ambronay festival, the Wratislawa Cantans festival in Poland, the Cervantino festival in Mexico…

Since 2015 he has taken part in recordings produced by the Alpha, Nomademusic and Harmonia Mundi Labels which have been praised by the press (ffff Télérama, « Choc » de classica, « Clic » de Classiquenews).

In 2017 he was admitted in the Philippe Jaroussky Academy in Paris which involves masterclasses with Philippe Jaroussky and the chance to perform with his ensemble Artaserse at the brand new concert hall, the Seine Musicale Boulogne Billancourt.
